One of our principles as a business is fostering an environment that celebrates continuous learning. To enable this we have in place a learning, development, and training program for internal staff geared towards continuous learning for a better workforce.
Externally, our way of empowering continuous learning is by contributing towards providing quality education to students in rural Kenya. We do this by reaching out to schools located around our remote facilities across the country and trying to understand what contribution we can make towards improving their learning experience. This is especially true for girls based in rural Kenya who are trying to get an education. According to statistics from the ZanaAfrica Foundation, 4 in 5 girls in East Africa lack access to health education and sanitary pads. Informed by this, we usually carry out CSR initiatives in the schools within such remote communities. This involves the donation of learning furniture like desks and chairs, partial renovations to critical facilities and the donation of sanitary pads to the girls.
As an extension of these programs we also set up mentoring opportunities between our staff and the students, both boys and girls. So far, this has had an impact in Makueni, Isiolo and Mombasa counties. So far we have been in 5 schools and impacted 1500 students.
